Practise theoretical driving exam

You can practise for your theory exam in different ways. Through self-education or through an online 1 day ór 2 half-days crash course. It’s up to you, depending on what suits you best. In both situations we offer courses via expert UK teachers with Theory College Netherlands (TCN).

From the age of 16 you can start the theory. This is possible prior the start of your driving lessons. You have to pass your theory exam in order to start your practical drivers licence exam. We advise you to start your theory as soon as possible at the start of your driving lessons, or even prior the start of your driving lessons. You’ll be prepared better in practice and you’ll understand and learn everything much faster.

The theoretical exam is the preparation for “the real deal”. Your theory certificate is 50% of your drivers licence! Many cadidates don’t prepare sufficienty. They think a good theory education is too expensive, use a third-hand theory book, don’t practise enough proper practise exams, and/or simply don’t spend enough time on their preparation.

The result is: Fail one or more than one time. This doesn’t only involve extra exam costs but also will your driving education be delayed and extra costly. Of course there are tricky questions on the exams, but CBR develops the exam questions very thoroughly with input of many experts. It’s only a myth that the theory exam is full of trick questions only made to fail you.

So be well-prepared for your theory exam! When you pass, you have the ability to show your knowledge of traffic regulations, have a good understanding of different traffic situations and recognise danger. You can do this in different ways. For example through self-education or an online crash course in small groups.

This is how the car theory exam works

You take your theory exam at the CBR location that suits you. As soon as you pass your exam your certificate will be valid for 18 months. The theory exam (through touch screen) comprises 65 multiple choice questions about:

• Hazard perception
• Knowledge (Traffic regulations)
• Insight

1. Hazard perception 
You’ll answer 25 questions about hazard recognition of which you have to answer 13 correctly. You have 8 seconds per question. You’ll have to respond quickly just like in traffic.

2. Knowledge 
You’ll answer 12 questions about traffic regulations. You’ll have to answer 10 questions correctly in total.

3. Insight 
You’ll answer 28 questions about general understanding of traffic situations. You’ll have to answer 25 questions correctly in total.
